The Restaurant at the End of the Universe

One of our neighbors, an older German fellow, has been trying to tell us about something for the last couple days. I bumped into him yesterday on the beach, and though he spoke no English (and I no German), he went to great lengths to communicate his excitement - pointing across the water, slapping his legs and making large gestures. With the help of our Swiss neighbors, we eventually reached a translation. "A very fine fish restaurant, an hour's walk along the beach, not to be missed! Very cheap, very good, completely safe!
"And... there is something VERY important you should know: there are beach chairs. Forty or fifty of them, all for free!"

One of the greatest things about being on the beach is that you can step out your door in bathing suit and bare feet, and walk along that beach to your heart's content. Anyways, we did just that, heading in the direction of the restaurant, and 45 minutes later, voila! Out of nowhere, in the middle of nowhere, on this completely empty and vast stretch of beach, there was a little ramshackle building with a collection of tables and chairs encircling it. Within half an hour, the tables were full (with almost entirely older European couples), and a little later a trio of musicians arrived and began to play. The whole thing was surreal. And the food was incredible: enormous fillets of fresh fish, rice, beans, fries, salad, cold beer...
How about that? Like being on a desert island, and stumbling into an oasis of amazing food and hospitality. Then sealing the meal with a dip in the warm ocean, being tossed around in the waves for a while. And finally walking back alongside the very vision of paradise...
Without a doubt, the loveliest day I've spent here so far.

The Restaurant, hiding in the trees.

The way back from the restaurant. The tiny palm trees towards the left of the picture mark the Point from whence we came.

...

And on a completely different note: Have you ever seen such an enormous papaya???
