The trip into town yesterday, and the total sensory-battery and stimulus-overload that always comes with it, was necessarily followed by many hours on the calm side of the beach, where the water is slightly cooler than the air and so placid that you can sit in it, up to your chest, and read a book without fear of getting it wet, which is what we both did, being total nerds. That is the longest sentence I have ever written, and I don't care.
There was a very interesting change in the weather today. The windy side of the peninsula was still, and the still side was windy. We walked to the restaurant a.t.e.o.t.u. again, as is our new routine. The waves were spectacular today, roaring in towards the shore in long foaming lines, one following rapidly after another. Easily twice as powerful as the last time we swam there. (I can still feel the tugging and swirling motions on my legs.) It's lovely to be able to wallow in a tranquil bay, but there's nothing like the feeling of waiting for a roaring wall of water to reach you and choosing at the very last second whether to dive under or jump over it. A real wave should pummel the body, purge the sinuses, and utterly cleanse the soul!
